Drone Reports 2014: The Facts And The Fiction

Hobbyist are getting an unfair bad rap. Most of the reports just don’t have enough information to say if it was a hobby drone, a bird, a commercial drone, or a military drone. Most of the reports just go into the file, and there is not any followup. It just becomes a datapoint. I’ve read the narrative for every report. In the case the reporting party said it was a small white quadcopter, I counted that as a hobbyist. There are others that are reasonable clear such as a group a RC gliders at 700 feet where a C172 flew through the middle of them. But for the most part, the reports can go either way, and they are too inconclusive to throw any single group under the bus.

This next graph I think is the most important one.
